What riders love
  • This ride is super forceful and has 4 awesome inversions, especially that zero-g roll which gives incredible whip.
  • I love the speed as I couldn’t completely process when I was upside down I was going so fast.
  • Inversions are very intense and whippy, ride is butter smooth and I even got a little airtime pop in the back.
  • It has an awesome, forceful helix before even the first drop.
  • Ridiculous rushes of positive gs, mind-bending moments of whip, and a fantastic sense of speed, which the setting of this ride only intensifies!
  • one of the strangest layouts b&m has made, but wow, this ride is shockingly intense.
  • The way it weaves through The Hollow is beautiful and the helix before the drop is great.
  • The location of this coaster makes it more special then others due to how it goes over and under other rides as well.
  • I like the unusual way it begins, with a high helix to give you a nice view before it really drops (kind of like Daemonen at Tivoli Gardens).

Performance

Vs. other coasters at Hersheypark

The first drop gave a little bit of floater in the back and then the inversions were all smooth and whippy.

Jack Jack J.

Absolutely crushing positives for most of the ride and the turn back to the station has an airtime hill that gives airtime you would never expect on an invert and a very whippy corkscrew.

Kenny H.

The turn-around after the lift hill is surprisingly intense (sadly I kinda knew it ahead of time, otherwise that would’ve caught me off guard), then the first drop gave off some decent floater.

Vinnie T

There’s an airtime moment into a fast turn over the creek that I didn’t expect!

Eric Esty

The inverisons are very fun, especially the zero g roll and the corkscrew and this is one of the smoothest coasters I’ve ever ridden

Inverted Thrills

The Bear has a chip on its shoulder or something, I got a lot of unexpected intensity, but never roughness.

Coaster Critic

Great Bear is a great B&M inverted coaster, and what really made it nice was how comfortable the ride was.

Millan B.

Great Bear is a BM suspended coaster that is very comfortable and smooth.

Clayton Latone

however I am not a huge fan of the corkscrew, I throw my head into the restraint but I also am short so not a problem for taller riders.

M P

Unfortunately, I had a very (uncharacteristically) bumpy ride last weekend in the front row, and I suffered a mild concussion.

@coconut3076

Ridiculous rushes of positive gs, mind-bending moments of whip, and a fantastic sense of speed, which the setting of this ride only intensifies!

Beau

After the sweet, smooth Immelmann you go right into a forceful zero-g roll.

Coaster Critic

The trio of inversions that follow provide some nice forces, most notably the Immelmann.

Kw6sTheater

The 4 inversions are all really solid and the zero g roll is one of my favorites and its definitely a forceful coaster but is plagued by dead spots.

Cooper Zimmerman

Not intended to be a heavily forceful ride; though obviously still has the same basic height restrictions as other B&M’s, which I find somewhat contradictory.

Dave Scott

Now Great Bear is going quite fast because we not only got our speed from the first drop, but we also had a little extra speed from that first helix.

Incredible Coasters

I like the way it keeps it’s speed, but a fairly dull layout outside of the two rampages keeps it from being better.

Maddux

The first drop, while being pretty unusual, is nice, there are great forces and the ride is very fast paced.

Simon

It does have a lot of dead space between the final inversion and the brake run, but that’s a minor nitpick on an otherwise great coaster.

Nathan F

A smooth b&m invert with a great location on the lake, but the first drop is slow with dead spots along the ride, plus a short ride which is also a negative.

Tangzy

Capacity is always outstanding on these though and give very short lines no matter how packed the park is on that day.

Max S.

This ride usually doesn’t have too bad of lines either

Clayton Latone

Don’t really understand how a B&M invert can routinely have 1-2 hour lines but I guess that’s Hersheypark ops for you.

Bryan Bonafede

I’m being completely serious, this has the worst operations in the park.

Criticised for

The ride has some nice intensity and is one of my favorite inverts I’ve been on.

Austin L., Captain Coaster review

Inversions are nice but besides that it’s kinda boring and it’s way too short to be ranked in the top 5 B&M Inverts like people rank it as.

Carter Seitz, Captain Coaster review

The odd turn before the first drop and the use of terrain and other roller coasters long the layout make for an excellent combination.

Scott Collins, Captain Coaster review

After the sweet, smooth Immelmann you go right into a forceful zero-g roll.

Coaster Critic, published review

It is no where near as relentless as Raptor, Montu or any of the Batman clones.

Brian Sheldon, Captain Coaster review

Great Bear has always been one of my favorite B&M inverted coasters and I honestly think it is EXTREMELY underrated.
