What riders love
  • Pure hilarity of slamming around in the dark not knowing what’s next… amazing.
  • Being in the dark is an instant fun multiplier, and you get some fun pops as you go!
  • THIS. RIDE. IS. SO. FUN. It seems to just keep going and going.
  • From the moment you step into this queue, you feel happy. The music, the star tunnel, the vibes are just immaculate.
  • The ride feels very fast, with twinkling stars and supports whizzing by, Starry-O-Phonic sound effects making it feel faster, the projections on the dome, the awesome soundtrack, and the blasting A/C really create an awesome atmosphere for this coaster.
  • But the elaborate science-fiction theming of the queue, station, pre-lift and lift hill really hypes you up for that experience, and things like strategically placed fans make it seem like you're going much faster than you are.
  • What is a surprise is the airtime on this. Didn't expect airtime of all things on this ride.
  • This is a very fun coaster that took me by surprise! I was laughing all the ride.
  • You never know which direction you’re going to go next.

Performance

Vs. other coasters at Magic Kingdom

Very fun laterals, drops, and even experienced a moment of ejector at one point. You never know which direction you’re going to go next.

SocialismDoesntWork

Although the front is probably the best seat, the back is also pretty nice due to it having the most airtime and intensity.

Limitless Park

This is because of some seriously strong pops that try to forcefully remove you from you seat, which you feel the hardest in the front.

Ethan S.

What is a surprise is the airtime on this. Didn’t expect airtime of all things on this ride.

Christopher S.

Four of the three drops have sharp, Magnum-esque ejector airtime, and the largest drop has great floater air. There are also two sharp ejectors into midcourse brakes, which don’t brake much at all.

Eric Esty

Every drop was ejector as we had a heavy Train!

@bigc1280

The T-bar lap bar surprisingly gives you a lot of room to float, so the airtime feels natural and not painful at all. 100% would do again.

Eli S.

But it definitely needs something, because it was painful the last time I rode it in 2017, and that’s most of a decade ago.

GreatAmericanEagle

The queue is long, the vehicles are cramped, and the coaster itself is rough compared to modern alternatives.

DisneyBlog Team

On alpha, I prefer the back row to the front, as in the middle third of the ride there a few drops that hit very hard in the back.

Ethan S.

Very fun, occasional strong ejector pop, super intense, great visuals, is how I’d sum up this ride. However, it is a little janky but I honestly don’t mind that.

Ethan

I enjoyed it and thought it was pretty intense but the darkness made it harder to brace for turns and drops so felt a bit rougher than a normal coaster.

Emily Pritchard

It’s noticeably rougher than the Disneyland version, but it felt much more chaotic and intense. So much so that I was laughing hysterically almost the whole time.

Ryan Armstrong

Overall, I believe everyone needs to ride this coaster at least once, it’s not too intense and provides just enough thrills for everyone to enjoy.

Grayson Lee

Alpha seems a little jerky it’s not aggressive at all and that’s what I look for in most of my roller-coasters but theming is great and it’s a blast to ride

Stormin Norman

I was scared of how fast the ride was going, and the thematics were cool. I’m gonna ride the omega side next time i go to magic kingdom

Sam M.

The darkness isn’t a negative though, as it makes the ride both feel faster and seem more terrifying.

Limitless Park

While this ride is only 28 mph it feels WAY faster because of the brilliant use of fans, the darkness and the compactness.

Dylan

I think they really could’ve made this ride more fun, but it’s just a ton of speed in a ton of darkness. You have no idea what’s happening and you just want it to be over.

David Bragdon

Also there were some dead spots due to the trims. I do like the sudden drops though, especially in the dark.

Mik Gov

The rides capacity is amazing considering the trains only seat 6 people. There are a lot of MCBRs throughout but they don’t effect the ride that much and it stay consistently paced throughout.

Jack Jack J.

Wait times regularly exceed 60 minutes, even on moderate crowd days. The ride vehicles are uncomfortable for anyone over six feet tall, and the individual lap bars feel dated.

DisneyBlog Team

I did both tracks once and even the lightning lane line for them was at least 20 minutes. But when I got on I was blown away.

This is another WDW coaster that I loved as a kid. Just like Thunder Mountain, it has great theming and was very unique for its time.

Kristofer Wempa, Captain Coaster review

I was a lot more impressed with this ride when I rode as a kid in the 70s than when I rode it as an adult. It’s fun. It’s nostalgic.

Coaster Nut, Captain Coaster review

It is so janky my phone fell out of my pocket. It’s cool how it’s in the dark but it was like every turn was me being t boned by a semi truck.

Lucas Thornborough, Captain Coaster review

A really good family coaster, even with the immense jank. All the little drops have decent airtime, and the ride is filled with amazing laterals.

Birb from not Canada, Captain Coaster review

GreatAmericanEagle, review

I did enjoy Space Mountain to some degree, I thought the theming was really cool. However, the rattle of the track gave me one of the worst headaches I’ve ever gotten on a ride.
