Very smooth for it's age
What riders love
  • The ejector in the back row on that double dip is a must do for anyone who loves airtime.
  • Then you sit in the back car and hit the double down and giggle like an idiot the rest of the day.
  • That double down shouldn’t be legal.
  • This coaster operates without lap bars and looks as rickety as my 90 year old grandfather.
  • It's just a seatbelt and a single handlebar as the restraints, which is why it's so scary.
  • There's basically no restraint so you get yeeted out of your seat.
  • The classic wooden layout is fun without being overly intense.
  • A classic terrain woodie with an insane airtime moment.
  • Another fun classic wood coaster.

Performance

Vs. other coasters at Kennywood

What I didn’t expect was that absurd standing airtime on the double down, which might be the single greatest element I’ve ever experienced.

Jackie ODoyle

The airtime on each drop was so good, especially on the famous double dip,

Sam

That strong ejector with only a seatbelt is legit terrifying and those few seconds being completely off the seat feel like an eternity.

Cooper Zimmerman

The Jack Rabbit is a decent wooden rollercoaster that has great airtime, however some of spots on the ride are kinda boring and kill the ride pacing.

Alessio Romano

Went in expecting the great airtime people rave about in the back, and it did nothing.

Niko Banfield

The rest of the ride doesn’t really do anything but its still fun and smooth, however the double down is why I rank it as high as I do.

Carter Eckhart

Props for the extremely comfortable trains, though.

Andrew A.

For a 100 year old coaster this thing is fairly smooth and seriously powerful (in the back row at least).

Ryan Armstrong

Other than that the ride is a good bit uncomfortable, it is not too bad but still a negative that personally weakens the ride for me.

Max B.

So while it’s not glass smooth, it’s also approaching 100 years old and its better maintained and a better ride than most 5 year old coasters at most other parks.

@KenCarm

Along with the drop, the coaster features a superbly fun and forceful double down after the lift hill, plus a tunnel over the first turnaround section.

Theme Park James

My 2nd favorite Woodie at Kennywood, the double down was ridiculously forceful and provided standing ejector!

Jeff Pimp

This thing is pretty dang intense, for how old it is.

24/7 Rollercoasters

Today this is a great family coaster, and it is the first "real" rollercoaster for a lot of kids who grow up in Western PA.

Chris K.

The front is perfect for smaller or first time riders.

Aloe Banks-Weetman

"It’s just fast and a little bit scary," Kleman said.

Vic Kleman

The ride feels like it spends more time on lift hills or straight sections than actually getting some forces in.

Anthony DeNight Jr.

The thing is though, this early ride felt so sluggish.

Alessio Romano, Captain Coaster review

Although Jack Rabbit is decently short in my opinion, it still makes the most out of its layout.

Sena Coasters, Captain Coaster review

How can I explain this one…It’s literally 105 years old as of 2025 and has better airtime than some of the 20 year old wooden coasters that I’ve rode to date!

Silver Thunderbolt, Captain Coaster review

Along with the drop, the coaster features a superbly fun and forceful double down after the lift hill, plus a tunnel over the first turnaround section.

Theme Park James, published review

I feel like I’m crazy thinking this was overall a pretty boring ride, and easily the least exciting coaster in the park.

History and awards

June 18, 1920Opened

Built for $50,000 on a natural ravine, designed by John A. Miller. The park's first coaster with wheels that lock the train to the track, which is what made a drop this steep possible then.

1951Today's trains

Built by Edward Vettel Sr. to replace the original open-front trains. Kennywood's carpenters build one new car every year, so they never all wear out at once.

1947 to 1991The tunnel was gone

The dark tunnel on the low back turn was taken out in 1947 and put back before the 1991 season.

2.5 tonsof nails, and 140,000 feet of wood

Pittsburgh Magazine's 2016 count. Its estimate to build the ride today: $8 million.
